DYNAMO STUDIOS AND THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA

This initiative will consist of a multi-tiered programming model built around the idea of creating robust community change that starts in schools and follows a strategic pipeline of programming within community centers.

The first point of impact starting in schools is imperative. The reason being is that this allows for instructors and community partners to work with students every single day as a part of the students free and public education. This constant engagement leads to the building of strong relationships (a cornerstone of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs). Additionally, this where students will learn a baseline foundation of skillsets that lead to pre apprenticeship and career opportunities.

From there, students will be connected to extracurricular programs at partner community centers where they will be able to further their learning through consistency high level programming. Creating a means by which students can continue their learning beyond the realm of the classroom is critical to positioning them to break into the industry at a much younger age than traditional pathways like college.

In addition to pre-apprenticeship opportunities, a substantial part of our work is focused on Social Emotional Learning (SEL). SEL training is critically important to students in the communities we serve. These students statistically experience a wide variety of trauma (ACES) as a result of the fallout of poverty and marginalization. Mentorship has been clinically proven to be one of the most effective means of combatting trauma.

FROM THE CLASSROOM TO COMMUNITY CENTERS

In the simplest sense, programming will start in schools and continue after school through extra curricular programming in local community centers controlled by the City of Chattanooga. The centers targeted for programs will be slated for the schools that are in immediate proximity to the centers themselves.

The magic of Dynamo is that we teach students a skillset in schools and then create opportunities for them to apply what they’ve learned in the real world beyond the realm of the classroom. Partnering with community centers allows for our team to continue our work with students beyond the classroom with ease.
