PROJECT OVERVIEW

This new stage of Dynamo will allow us to maintain all current programs, free up the organization’s ability to operate with less restriction, and expand our new programs to a much wider audience. Furthermore this next phase will allow for Dynamo to more effectively create realistic and pragmatic professional opportunities for students participating in Dynamo Studios programs. To achieve all of this we will be outfitting a train car at the one and only Chattanooga Choo Choo with high-end recording equipment, a space to edit film and photos, and the space needed to host bands for different production sessions supporting our students.

Beyond our general programming and Dynamo focused production sessions, this production house will act as a work space for a small number of creatives that volunteer their time with Dynamo. Through this exchange they will be able to utilize our space to help bolster their own professional opportunities in exchange for actively supporting our programs and creating professional opportunities for our students within the local creative economy. Once the space is operational we will begin fundraising for full-time positions as well. This space will serve as the hub for all things Dynamo Studios, our educational production sessions, and all of our outreach programs to local schools and arts organizations.

What Is Featured In This Space?

  • A recording studio featuring state of the art analog and digital recording equipment from Universal Audio, API, Neve, SSL, ProTools, and much more.

  • A small editing lab with five iMacs for editing photos, film, audio, branding, design, etc. This will feature creative software suites such as ProTools, Logic and Final Cut, Ableton, and the Adobe Suite.

  • Enough space for Dynamo’s small team to operate out of as well as other creative professionals from the community.

WHY SHOULD THIS HAPPEN RIGHT NOW?

  • Our mission addresses every major initiative in Chattanooga (art, education, culture, innovation, neighborhood/community development) smoothly and cohesively.

  • Dynamo has the ability and connections in the music world to attract some of the largest and most prolific music makers in the industry to collaborate with our programs and students (i.e. the photo to the right our student shot of Jack Barakat who has an Instagram following of 891k on his personal account and a following 1.3 million on his band account. Very humbly speaking, this is one of many other examples.) Imagine artists of this capacity posting about their time working with students at the Choo Choo!

  • Our programming focuses on workforce development for students and economic development for artists, musicians, and the city of Chattanooga.

  • Our programming will foster change and growth in the local school system.

  • Dynamo has been successful without any operational funding.

  • Our team has maintained, on a 100% volunteer basis, programming for 20-35+ hours every single week since July 2017.

  • Most importantly, we have successfully served over 2,000 students and trained multiple public school teachers FOR FREE.

WHY SET UP SHOP AT THE CHOO CHOO?

How does Dynamo operating in this location benefit the Choo Choo as partners?

  • The space is already available in the vacant train cars.

  • This location puts Dynamo and our students in close proximity with touring artists and local music venues.

  • This partnership will promote the Choo Choo as a potential micro hub for creatives, something that is currently missing in the South Side. Dynamo operating in this area further supports the goal of building a large and successful Entertainment and Arts community around Station Street.

  • The Choo Choo will be able to write off the donated use of the space on their taxes

  • This is great promotion for the Choo Choo and their active involvement in the community.

  • Through Dynamo’s programs and media/content creation campaigns, the Choo Choo will be showcased regularly by collaborating artists and other creatives (local and national) through social media.

  • This will be a great long term investment for the Choo Choo because it creates a devoted younger audience through students participating in Dynamo’s programs that will support the various Choo Choo vendors for years to come. Furthermore, parents tend to stick around during our programs as opposed to driving home just to turn right back around to pick up their kids. Instead of just sitting around and waiting on their kids, parents will be able to grab coffee at Frothy Monkey, or grab a drink at American Draft, or maybe even do some shopping at the local shops on the Choo Choo campus.

How does this space benefit Dynamo Studios and our mission?

  • This location puts our organization, programs, and students in close proximity to two major music venues, multiple large event spaces, and the new 10Gig sound stages. One thing that separates our programs from other educational organizations is that we are actively creating professional opportunities through our career pipeline that allows for students to apply the skills they’ve learned through our programs in the real world as opposed to restricting skills application to a classroom. This is an integral component of the human development process that, at times, can be difficult to facilitate unless you just so happen to be setup within feet of a couple major music venues and other resources like whats already happening at the Choo Choo! Running our programs out of a train car would remove all of the issues and logistical nightmares created by transporting students from one location to another all the way across town. This location would lead to an incredible amount of growth for our students that would otherwise be unachievable in another location.

  • In addition to supporting professional opportunities for our students outside of the learning environment, this location would allow for us to integrate whats happening around the Choo Choo in our programs. We could take our students to shoot photos or film for concerts and other events and then immediately take them back to our train car studio to start editing all of the content so that the artists are able to walk away with media content before they are even done performing! In this scenario not only are the students getting what they need, but the artists are also able to walk away with a product that directly benefits them and their ability to market themselves across the web and social media.

Through community partnership, Dynamo Studios cultivates an innovative culture founded in the music industry that is essential for the sustained entrepreneurial growth of our city. You can make a difference.

FLOCK X DYNAMO STUDIOS PARTNERSHIP

Another cool opportunity, that this particular space lends itself to, is our partnership with the Flock Artist Development team. Through this partnership, three of the Flock team members will operate out of this space along side our team. That means that they will utilize parts of our space and resources to further develop their artists and new up and coming artists, thus bolstering our local music economy in a very tangible way. Most importantly however, this partnership will allow for our students to constantly be surrounded by professionals that are looking to support and work with said students. Dynamo has had the great fortune of having some amazing opportunities, but this is what Dynamo is all about. Students having easy access to some of the best local talent Chattanooga has to offer and thus having the opportunity to work with pros on a regular basis. What’s even better about this scenario is that the Flock team will have what they need to grow their brand and artist roster.

  • Deliverables from this partnership will be quite broad. Here is a brief list of what you can expect to see from Dynamo’s partnership with Flock.

    • Artist showcases and musical performances

    • Visual art showcases and community art projects

    • Digital and print-look books as well as quarterly or bi-monthly magazine publications

    • A bolstering of the local music scene

    • Growth in public engagement with local artists, music makers, and the music scene at large

Why does DyNAmo STUDIOS partner with the Flock?

  • The artists they’ve developed, managed, and collaborated with have an incredibly wide reach with public engagement.

  • Collectively, their artists have millions and millions of streams on Spotify alone.

  • They have worked with Dynamo Studios and our students since day one of our educational programs.

  • The Flock team has managed to build up a strong local, regional, national, and international following.

  • The Flock team LOVES the Choo Choo and everything that is happening in the Southside.

  • Most importantly, they truly care about our students and they really get what our mission is all about. That’s why they have actively worked hand in hand with our kids and are now even working on a huge art installation in a classroom at East Lake Middle School. They see the value that art, education, community, and opportunity add to a student’s life and thats why we’ve chosen to include their team as programatic partner for this project.

We have a ton of programs currently operating out the studio at the Chattanooga Public Library and in a few local schools. Check those our here.

In addition to our current programs, here is an example of something we would like to see happen if we were to set up shop at the Choo Choo.
